April 11, 18 and 25
MEETING LOCATION: THE HEALING CENTER FULL GOSPEL BAPTIST CHURCH, 3885 Tchulahoma Rd, Memphis, TN 38118
In Matthew 23, Jesus challenges faith leaders with these words: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. It is these you ought to have practiced without neglecting the others. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel!” What was true for the synagogue in the time of Jesus is also true for the church of today. We too can be guilty of only focusing our attention on certain matters of faith to the detriment of weightier matters of justice and mercy; weightier matters including racism and racial division inside and outside the church. This is why it is critical (and faithful) that we continue to have conversations and nurture the relationships with our friends at The Healing Center Full Gospel Baptist Church. This is why Second Baptist and The Healing Center will be meeting together for three weeks in April for our Wednesday evening studies. We will travel to their church at 3885 Tchulahoma Road, returning the favor for their visit to our church for four weeks in the fall of 2016. Our schedule at The Healing Center will be the same as our normal with dinner at 5:00 p.m. and programming at 6:00 p.m. To help ensure as many people as possible can attend, please let the church office know if you need transportation assistance. We also encourage people to carpool and to use Second Baptist as your meeting location. If you have questions or need more information, please contact Daniel Johnson at 682.3395 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
