This spring there will be opportunities for all ages to participate in small group spiritual formation classes. Join us Sunday afternoons at 4:00 pm. for children and youth, as well as adult studies, and Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday adult studies begin on March 20 and Sunday sessions for all ages begin on March 24. Please note: The adult classes offered in this four-week block will be offered again in May on alternate days.
Through 50 years of research, the Search Institute has found that there are 40 positive experiences and qualities that all young people need to grow up healthy and responsible. Research has found that the more of these 40 Developmental Assets a child has, the more likely they will thrive personally AND spiritually. The great news is that the church is full of people and experiences that can produce assets for young people.
Join us in a four week study to learn about these assets, their power and how we can apply these assets to encourage and build up our children, grandchildren, students, mentees, neighbors, and all children with whom we interact. This is a study for everyone including parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, and more.
The Sunday afternoon adult study will focus on Amy Jill-Levine’s recent book, Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi. Participants will consider how the first-century Jewish audiences Jesus addressed understood his stories, making connections with economic and agricultural life, social customs and morality, Jewish scriptures and Roman culture. These studies will help show how the parables are not just about Jesus, but are also about us and how they still challenge and provoke us two thousand years later.
